A Piece of Home in Romania

Living and serving overseas has so many joys, but it also comes with challenges—one of the hardest being the distance from home. For us, “home” is more than just a place; it’s the people we love, the family and friends who shape so much of who we are. That’s why having Gabby’s mom visit us in October was such a gift—a piece of home in the middle of a busy and sometimes overwhelming season.

Her visit was about more than just catching up or having familiar company. It was a reminder of the love and support we have back home, even from miles away. When you’re so far away for so long, it’s easy to feel a little disconnected. Sometimes, the ache for home creeps in when we least expect it, and we’re reminded of how much we miss the people who know us best.

Having Gabby’s mom here helped ease that ache, if only for a little while. During her time with us, we laughed, shared meals, and enjoyed the simple joy of being together. She got to see firsthand the ministry we’re part of and experience the life we’ve built here. That connection—being able to share our world with someone from home—was deeply encouraging. It reminded us that we’re not alone in this journey, even when it feels that way.

Her presence was very comforting. It reminded us of God’s faithfulness through the people He places in our lives.

When the time came for her to leave, it was bittersweet. Saying goodbye is never easy, but we were left with a renewed sense of gratitude—for her visit, for her love, and for the God who brings encouragement just when we need it most.

As we continue serving here, we carry that encouragement with us. Visits like hers remind us that, while the distance is hard, the bonds we have with loved ones don’t fade. They are strengthened by moments like these, when God uses them to refresh and renew us for the work He’s called us to do.

If you’re someone who has supported us from afar, know this: your prayers, messages, and love mean more than we can put into words. And if you’re ever able to visit, we’ll have a seat at the table waiting for you—a piece of home in Romania.
