An Unexpected Thanksgiving

At the end of November, God laid something new on our hearts: a Thanksgiving dinner—but not just any dinner. For the first time ever, we decided to invite the parents of the youth in our group. In Romania, this was a bold step. Many parents here don’t support their children attending church, and we weren’t sure how they’d respond to our invitation.

Would they come? Would they be open? Would this dinner make any impact at all?

We didn’t have answers to these questions. What we did have, though, was a clear sense that God was leading us to take this step of faith.

A Step of Faith

As we set the tables, we prayed. We prayed for softened hearts, for genuine connections, and for the love of Christ to shine in every conversation.

And God provided.

The parents showed up.

In fact, some of them walked in cautiously, unsure of what to expect, but by the end of the night, something remarkable happened. Conversations flowed, laughter filled the room, and walls that had stood for years began to crumble—if only just a little.

How God Moved

God worked in ways we couldn’t have anticipated. He turned a simple meal into a bridge. Through the warmth of shared food, stories, and gratitude, He created opportunities for trust to grow. Parents who once showed no interest in their children’s faith got to see firsthand the care and love that surrounds their kids.

These moments reminded us that while we plant seeds, only God can make them grow.

Looking Ahead

We don’t know what the long-term impact of this dinner will be, but we trust that God is at work. The connections made that evening were just the beginning, and we’re praying for open doors to share more about Jesus—not only with the youth, but with their families as well.

This Thanksgiving, we were reminded of a powerful truth: God honors steps of faith, even when we don’t know what’s on the other side. He moves in ways we don’t expect, breaking through even the hardest of circumstances.

As we reflect on that evening, we are deeply thankful— for the presence of the parents, that God gave us courage to take the step, and most of all because He is always at work, even when we can’t see the full picture.

Will you join us in praying for these parents? Pray that the seeds planted at this dinner will take root, and that God will continue to draw them closer to Him through the witness of their children.

Thanksgiving may have been a one-night event, but we trust God is writing a story far beyond what we could imagine.
